MAYOR SAMUEL J. FENTON REPORT FOR 2/15/06

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

A Commercial Developer Has Recently Come To An Agreement Of Sale On The O'connor Property Located At 3113 Veterans Highway (Route 413) By The Pathmark Shopping Center And Has Plans To Propose A Hotel, Banquet Hall/Convention Center, And Sports Bar/Family Restaurant.

Since The Recent Beautification Of Route 413, The Township Has Seen A Surge In Interested Parties In The Re-Development Of Veterans Highway Including The Finalized Bucks County Community College, First Federal Bank Headquarters, As Well As Another Site For A Potential Hotel And Restaurant. This Is The Exact Type Of Development The Township Is Looking For In Its Towncenter.

COMMUNITY DEVEOPMENT:

Threatened With Disappearance, The Community Development Block Grant Program Remains A Separate Source Of Grant Funding To Which Bristol Township Is Entitled. Bristol Township And Its Office Of Community Development Rallied Council, Subgrantees And Others Who Benefit From This Program To Inform Our Federal Legislators Of The Importance Of The Program To Each Of Our Residents. Many Letters Ans Petitions Were Sent To Our Legislators. They Supported The Township In This Significant Threat To The Township's Ability To Continue To Offer Assistance To Our Residents In A Very Personal Way.

Bristol Township Is Now Participating In The 32nd Year Of The Program. For Fiscal 2006, The Township Was Awarded $680,352. This Funding Is The Subject Of A Hud-Approved Plan With Each Dollar Committed.

The U. S. Department Of Housing And Urban Development Has Assessed Our Performance And We Continue To Far Surpass Hud's Expectations Such That 99.4% Of Our Funds Are Used To Benefit Low/Moderate Income Persons.

RESPONSIBLE CONTRACTOR ORDINANCE:

I Would Like Council To Consider A Responsible Contractor Ordinance, Similar To The One Passed By Norristown And Other Areas Of The State. This Ordinance Would Require That Contractors Bidding On Township Jobs, Exceeding A Certain Amount Of Money, Meet Strict Requirements. Meeting These Requirements Would Help Assure That The Township Work, By Outside Contractors, Would Get Completed In An Efficient Manner And With The Outmost Quality By Qualified Contractors.

I Request A Motion To Move Forward With A Responsible Contractor Ordinance.

PUBLIC SAFETY:

I Would Like To Ask Council To Pass A Resolution Requesting The People Of Bristol Township Not To Purchase Or Their Children To Posess The "25 To Life Video" That Advocates The Shooting Of Police Officers And The Taking Of Civilian Hostages.

GRANTS:

I Would Like To Make A Recommendation To Use The Monies $52,500 For The Flassing Light On Olds Blvd., Which We Do Not Have The Monies To Complete The Improvements Penndot Requires, For Drainage Projects As Seen Fit By Our Public Works Director.

There Are Two Other Projects That The Manager Will Bring Up In Her Report That I Also Support.
