MAYOR FENTON REPORT
June 15, 2006

PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUES

I Would Like To Thank Our Police Department For The Excellent Work They Did Ensuring Public Safety At The Truman High School Commencement Ceremony. The Ceremony Went Off Professionally And With Out Incident. Chief Mcandrew And His Lieutenants Developed And Implemented A Security Plan With The Welfare Of The Students, Faculty, Family Members And All In Attendance In Mind. The Plan Worked, Even The Rain Held Out! Their Actions Are Truly To Be Commended.

I Am Extremely Pleased To Announce That We Have Already Met Our Revenue Projections For Many Public Safety And Code Enforcement Line Items. The New Fire Inspectors And Procedure Changes Are Paying Off. I Want To Thank Kevin Dippolito, Glenn Kucher And Dana Becker For Their Efforts. I Also Want To Thank The Fire Chief Who Supported The Idea Of Increasing The Level Of Inspections Services. The New Program Is Helping To Make Bristol Township Safer And More Efficient.

ANIMAL CONTROL LAWS

At Last Week's Meeting, We Were Made Aware Of An Unfortunate Situation Regarding The Handling Of A Deceased Dog. As A Dog Owner And A Dog Lover, My Condolences Go Out To The Family Who Lost Their Pet.

The Township Does Have Regulations And Policies Pertaining To Deceased Animals. Chapter 57 Of Our Code Does Address The Issue Of What Is To Occur When The Township Takes Control Of A Deceased Animal. After 48 Hours Notice Is Provided To The Owner, The Township Official Is Authorized To Cause Any Deceased Pet To Be Cremated Or Buried In A Humane Manner.

The Storage Of The Animal For This 48 Hour Period Must Be Addressed. I Recommend That A Refrigerated Unit Of Some Sort Be Purchased For This Purpose. Also, I Would Also Recommend That A Local Veterinarian Be Contacted When The Township Is Placed In The Postion Of Disposing Of The Dead Animal. Utilizing A Local Vetertinarian Would Assurethat The Deceased Animal Is Being Handled In The Most Humane Manner. Of Course, The Cost Of The Cremation Would Have To Be Incurred By The Pet's Owner. We Also Have To Come Up With A Policy For Wild Animals.
