MAYOR FENTON REPORT
JULY 27, 2006

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

I Would Again Like To Start The Employee Of The Month Program. It Has Been Four Years Since I Have Honored Any Employee Who Has Gone Well Above His Or Her Duties To Provide Services To Our Residents; Showing His Or Her Commitment To A Work Ethic Even If It Means Working Additional Hours; Assuming Responsibility And Working In The Spirit Of Cooperation With Fellow Employees To Get The Job Done.

This Employe Would Be Awarded A Certificate Of Recognition And The "Employee Of The Month" Parking Space, Also Lunch With Their Supervisor. This Creates A Good Working Enviroment And Shows Appreciation For A Job Well Done.

BIG BROTHERS/SISTERS WORK PROGRAM

I am Requesting The Council Approval to Again Start The Big Brothers/Sisters Work Program. I Would Like Your Support To Hire Eight (8) Youths At $7.00 An Hour For Thirty (30) Hours A Week (Total $1,680.00 In Salary Per Week) Which Cost To Be Taken From Public Works Salary Line.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Bristol Township Police Department Reminds All Town Watch Groups And Neighborhood Organizations That Tuesday, August 1st is National Night Out. With that in mind the Police Department is Requesting all Residents to turn on their Outside Lights, and to be on their streets, porches and in their yards, meeting and talking with their neighbors. If your neighborhood will be having a large gathering, and are planning neighborhood activities, contact the Police Department and we will make arrangements to have an officer show up and interact with the residents, contact us at 215-785-5973.

SALE OF FIREWORKS

Current legislation allows retailers to only sell fireworks to out of state customers. Although fireworks retailers are forbidden from selling products to commonwealth residents, residents from neighboring states such as New Jersey are allowed to purchase these products in Pennsylvania. This law has placed an additional burden on public safety and request from the industry to open shops here in Bristol Township.

I am Requesting Council's Support In Sending a letter to our State Representatives to revoke the current law and make it illegal for anyone to purchase or sell fireworks in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Household Hazardous Waste And Old Computer Collection Program In Lower Bucks Will Be Held Saturday, August 12th at The Bucks County Technical High School On Wistar Road, Bristol Township. The Event Will Take Place Rain Or Shine From 9:00am To 3:00pm. This Event Provides An Opportunity For Residents To Properly Discard Household Products Containing Toxic Chemicals. For Additional Information Contact 215-785-0501.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Bristol Township Has Sent Faxes To Both U. S. Senators Arlen Specter And Rick Santorum Requesting That The Administration's Call For A 25% Cut In Community Development Block Grant Funds Be Rejected.

A Cut Of This Magnitude Punishes Municipalities Like Bristol Township That Have Been Working For The Past 33 Years To Improve The Economic Well-Being, Safety, Health, And Livability Of Their Communities. Not Only Does It Reduce Funding But, In Some Cases Such As Bristol Township, It Takes Away The Municipality's Ability To Directly Receive And Control C.D.B.G.  Funding. It Passes Those Funds On To The State. We Would Have To Compete For Those Dollars Rather Than Receive Them As A Right Under The Law.

I Know That A Number Of Community-Based Organizations Who Receive Funding Under The Township's C.D.B.G. Program Have Already Sent Faxes And Letter To Our Senators. For The Sake Of Bristol Township's Future, I Humbly Request That Any Organizations That Have Not, Please Fax Or Send Letters To Senators Spector And Santorum Requesting Their Support Of The Community Development Block Grant Program. Our Community Development Office Can Assist You.
